M.ILL.ION: Sane & insanity

25/04/11  ||  revenant

What went wrong? At what point did the world change from seeing Global Domination as a metal site to one where it’s acceptable to send cheesy rock albums to? Did we sully our own reputations by publishing articles on trashy rock bands such as Boston, Foreigner and Whitesnake? Is this what drove a record label to send us M.ILL.ION’s (henceforward written as Million, I’m not typing out that bullshit each time) latest cheese rock extravaganza?

OK OK, I will admit to listen to this kind of cheesy rock on my way to being a metal head. I will admit to rocking out to Whitesnake myself as a teen. Hell, if you’d lived in Melbourne back in the late late 80’s you may have even heard me sing “Fool for Your Lovin’” on the radio to win a crappy prize (an event I’m not proud of and hope all physical records of have been destroyed). But that was over twenty years ago.

Sure, Million’s “Sane & Insanity” is not a bad album. Actually it’s pretty damn good if you’re into this kind of thing. Well-performed, catchy, melodic and hell, even the keyboards don’t sound out of place. If you are into cheesy rock in the vein of that which was so big back in the 80’s, then Million is one band you definitely need to check out. But I’m at a point where I can no longer stomach cheese like this. Just looking at the song titles alone gives me indigestion. “Cry to Heaven”? Ugh!

Regardless, I just can’t shake the feeling I shouldn’t be reviewing this. Now maybe the readers of this will log onto the forum and tell me I’m full of shit, but I highly doubt the readers of this site are in the market for this kind of music. I’m not going to punish this album with a bad score though, it’s undeniably a quality product despite it’s cheesiness, and one that should hit the mark with fans of this style of music. I just wonder if there’s anyone here to dig it.
